Treatments
At Farrow Orthodontics, we believe that the orthodontic system used in treatment is the most vital factor in creating an esthetic smile for all ages. The Orthodontic Research Manufacturing Company, also known as Ormco, has dedicated itself to research in order to create the best braces with the best results. Through their efforts, the Damon System was born which delivers a better clinical outcome than traditional braces. We are one of a select few offices in the state that solely utilize the Damon System. It is designed to produce a beautiful, broad smile WITHOUT requiring a palate expander or extractions of permanent teeth in most cases. We choose to offer you the latest technology in orthodontics to achieve optimum results and performance that’s more comfortable than you’ve ever imagined. If you are an adult considering braces, we recognize the conventional form of treatment may not be your first choice. With this in mind, we provide more subtle forms of treatment such as the Damon Clear System, Invisalign, and Simpli5. The Damon Clear brackets give you a n elusive appearance without losing the clinical performance of the original Damon System. This is best for a patient who needs significant tooth alignment but desires a more pleasing smile while in treatment. Invisalign is a detachable form of treatment that straightens teeth using a series of clear, custom aligners. Patients who choose appearance over performance are best suited for this form of orthodontics. Invisalign is more limited in the movement it can deliver, but provides you with an attractive smile without the braces you’ve always avoided. Simpli5© is an alternate clear aligner system that is used for more minor tooth movements. It utilizes clear, removable trays and has a shorter treatment time using only five trays total. What To Expect
Temporary soreness is typical of orthodontic treatment. Moving teeth against tissue and bone is expected to cause minor discomfort for patients. All patients tolerate mouth discomfort differently. Typically a few hours after your first visit, you will experience tenderness to chew for up to a week. The best form of pain relief for orthodontics is Tylenol, but any over-the-counter pain medication is sufficient. Initially the lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated as they become accustomed to the equipment. The best aid for this is using the wax given to you from our office or swishing with warm salt water. Do not be discouraged- once you tackle this first week you’ve surpassed the worst part! Your regularly scheduled adjustments will cause discomfort for only a few days, but this is not comparable to the initial visit in which the braces were placed. Soon the results will far outweigh any soreness you may experience.
Emergencies
True orthodontic emergencies are very rare, but when they do occur we are available to you. If you have a poking wire you may be able to solve the problem without coming into the office. You may use a pencil eraser to push the wire back to alleviate the discomfort. If this provides no relief, contact our office and we will find the next available appointment to clip the wire. If any equipment breaks such as a bracket or wire, this can only be fixed by visiting our office. Allowing your braces to remain damaged for an extended period of time will result in disruptions to your treatment plan. We appreciate you saving all broken equipment because in most cases we can still use the materials. If you are unsure of how to proceed or are in extreme pain, do not hesitate to call our office for more guidance.
